The Agitators came to rise in Dallas during the early 90’s. Clint Phillips, the band’s drummer, would come into the Direct Hit store and hang out with his crony Roger, the hard rocking guitar player for the Agitators. They would eventually bring in a cassette tape of their band for a listen. The classic punk rock energy from their music was just what I wanted. BAM! We were partners. Clint had the determination and the D.I.Y. ethic to drive the band to it's success and popularity. His creativity in designing artwork for promotions was shameless, and when coupled with the straight-up 1-2-3-4 punk rock sound ... well, it was the right mix for a Direct Hit release. Punk sounds recorded, and the ¼” reel sent off for pressing, we were in motion for #2 release on Direct Hit Records.
When the sweet slabs of purple wax were received at the store, we were like kids with a new toy, endlessly replaying the new record. To make this project whole, we had a record stuffing “party”. The band and I set up an assembly line, hand numbering each copy then stuffing the record with flyers and stickers. This was a family project and our baby was now ready to venture out into the world. Later on that year, I was in San Francisco perusing the Amoeba Record Store (the 'Mother' of all Record Stores) – Lo’ and Behold, fanning through the letter 'A’ record bin, what was I to stammer across, but the sweet punk rock of the Agitators. Our baby had made it to the big bay area, the punk rock mecca. Somebody give me a hallelujah … Side A: I Can't Wait, Circus
