Barry Kooda is a fixture in the Dallas music scene, as his musical history goes back to his first band, the Nervebreakers; who opened up for the Sex Pistols during that VERY legendary show in Dallas. Not limiting himself to punk rock, Barry organized the band Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! This venture included Barry’s melodic guitar and vocals along with Clint Phillips on drums (from the Agitators) and Paul Ore on bass. This combo created homestyle meat and potato music, and Direct Hit seized this full meal deal. This platter of wax spins like a lazy-susan, dishing out for all those hungry fans. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! was a staple of rock, performing relentlessly the honed straight ahead sounds which are captured on this record.
Barry had a space around the corner from Direct Hit, so we saw each other daily in the “hood”. During this time Barry was grooving on finding fossils, which began to translate into a primitive art experiment, hence the cover for the 7”. Barry took slabs of slate and carved primitives. The first taste of these works was delivered in the cover artwork of Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!, and as more pieces were created, this led to a full blown Art showing in the store. Solid Rock in art, music and life. |
